Types of Wall Words and Their Uses

Decorative and functional, wall words are decors sold either as ready to use or do-it-yourself wall decorating products. They are typically crafted and sold as interior decorations for homes and offices. Either hung, posted, or stenciled onto walls, these objects serve as decorations through their creative appearance or designs while at the same time acting as labels or conveying messages.

Wall word products commonly available may be generally classified into four types based on the nature and features of their materials. The four popular types are wooden, metallic, stencil, and vinyl. These represent the distinguishing features of most wall word decors for homes and offices.

The wooden wall word décors can be easily identified with their designs. They usually appear as blocks and tiles with the words inscribed or painted on them, hanging wall words, and engraved or sculpted words that are polished and burnished. There are also personalized hand-painted varieties available. Wooden wall words are popular as ornaments as they are known to easily blend with virtually any kind of setting, in offices or in homes. Some stores may offer wooden words that are only partially completed to allow buyers the chance to somewhat personalize them.

Another type of wall word decors is made of metals—the metallic wall words. They are usually made of wrought iron though some are created using brass, copper, aluminum, and stainless steel. The kind of impression they display distinguishes them from other wall word decors. They are expectedly expensive though such cost is aptly matched by the sophisticated appearance and durability. These word decors are commonly seen as the glossy names and logos of companies, establishments, or institutions.

Stencil wall words are a do-it-yourself type of wall word decoration. The wall word décor here is not the stencil itself but the output of using the stencil. Paint is used to create the words on the wall following the designs or patterns that come with the stencil. This is a good option for those who want to add a personal touch to their wall word decors. Likewise, stenciling offers the added benefit of variety and greater choice of designs and font styles.

Vinyl wall words offer a trendy way of decorating walls. They feature the flatness of stenciled wall words and the movability of wooden and metallic wall decors. Decorating walls with vinyl is practically as simple as using stickers on the wall. The output decorative wall words would look like precise hand paintings except that they can easily be erased or detached by simply peeling off the vinyl from the wall. Inexpensive and easy to use, vinyl lettering on walls certainly has its advantages.

The four types of wall word decors mentioned above have varied applications in workplaces and in the residential setting. They are particularly useful in offices where they usually serve both roles as decorations and as functional labels or signs. Likewise, they can be employed in a number of purposes in homes.

Wall words may be used as labels for cubicles and doors. They can also be used to assign names or tags for the sections and display shelves of stores. They may be posted as signs in public places. They can also adequately and attractively display the names of stalls and booths. For cafés and restaurants, using them for greeting signs and menu lists would be a neat idea. Offices, moreover, can be enlivened by introduction of witty or humorous wall word decors.

Home use of wall word decors, on the other hand, can go beyond being decorative. More than the shiny “Welcome” and “Home Sweet Home” decors, or the feel-good words and phrases posted in random corners, integrating wall word décors with home organizing and parenting is an idea worth thinking of. For instance, stenciled or vinyl words can be applied on specific parts of the house to encourage getting things in order. Vinyl words can also be used to put up instructions especially when training young children or toddlers. Likewise, they can decorate children’s rooms with educational sets of letters, words, and phrases.

Wall words can obviously be put to a number of worthwhile applications. They make good labels—attractively good labels. While they may not be as important as furniture, for instance, they do have functions beyond being mere decorations.
